Douglas P. Lackey is a Professor of Philosophy at Baruch College and the Graduate Center, City University of New York. A lifetime peace activist, he is the author of Moral Principles and Nuclear Weapons (Rowman and Allanheld, 1984), The Ethics of War and Peace (Prentice-Hall 1990), and Ethics and Strategic Defense (Wadsworth, 1990). Professor Lackey is married and has three children. He lives in Wayne, NJ. Professor Lackey came to write “Gandhi in Jerusalem” in response to the collapse of the Arab-Israeli peace process in October 2000. The play is an investigation, in dramatic form, of the scope and limits of nonviolent action. But the purpose of the play is not primarily to stimulate the mind. It is to move the heart over the tragic conflict of these two peoples. |
